Yes as both sides tried desperately to enlist men they had to find more effective ways of recruitment

A

King sent commissioners of Array and parliament sent officials but it tended to make lots of local armies reluctant to fight outside of their local boundaries
Also failed to provide sufficient numbers

A

Conscription- in the areas they controlled they compelled men to fight it lead to increased troop numbers but they were poorly trained so it was not uncommon for units to desert
