amenity
a plastic card that looks like a credit card, which you are given instead of a metal key to open your hotel room’s door
keycard
a pay television channel that is charged to the guests’ bill if they use it
in-room movie system
a list of food and drinks hung on the doorknobs of guest rooms. Guests can mark their orders here and give the time they want the food to be delivered, then hang the list on the doorknob again for the hotel staff to collect.
doorknob menu
a refrigerator in your hotel room with drinks that you can consume. You will be billed for what you drink when you check out.
minibar
a hotel room where you are allowed to stay for free, maybe to promote the hotel or as a bonus for large groups of people staying in the hotel.
complimentary room/comp room
a morning meal, usually comprised of bread, butter, jam, juice, and coffee or tea. The cost of the continental breakfast is usually included in the total room rate.
continental breakfast
transportation for the hotel guests’ use only, to make it easy for them to travel to places outside the hotel
charter
delivery or serving of food, drink, or other items (flowers, gifts, mail) to a guest’s room
room service
when the front desk staff calls up a hotel room to wake up a guest at the time requested by the guest
wake-up call
