What is a volcano?
A location where molten rock magma flows out onto the Earth’s surface, becoming lava

The word igneous comes from the Latin wordignis, meaning ‘fire’. The words ignite and ignition also come from the same Latin word.
What does lava mean?
Molten rock that has broken through the earths surface.
What does magma mean?
Molten rock that is underground.
What are the 2 types of igneous rocks?
Plutonic (intrusive) Volcanic (extrusive)
How would you best decide if an igneous rock was intrusive or extrusive?

What is a felsic igneous rock?
An igneous rock high in silica content
What is an intermediate igneous rock?
An igneous rock with medium levels of silica content
What is a mafic igneous rock?
An igneous rock with low-medium levels of silica content
What is an ultramafic igneous rock?
An igneous rock with very low silica content
How are igneous rocks formed?
Form when hot, molten rock crystallizes and solidifies.
