Hot And High Operations Flashcards
1
Q
Density Altitude
A
Pressure altitude corrected for non standard temperature.
DA = PA + 1000ft per 8degC above ISA
For any given IAS, the less dense the air is, the greater the TAS will be, therefore the energy of the aircraft is greater.
Effects:
- Increased turn radius
- Greater distance needed to decelerate.
- Higher vertical speeds for a given profile
- Faster touchdown speeds. Ensure IFLC calculation is carried out.
2
Q
Altimeter Error
A
High temperatures also cause altimeter to under read.
10degC difference from ISA = 4% height error.
3
Q
Intercepting GP from above
A
1) Ensure LOC is captured
2) Arm APP
3) Select lowest safe altitude (1000 aal)
4) Select V/S appropriate to capture G/S. (in some case greater than 1500ft may be required)
