How do you make damaged hose for repair
Clean the hose
Circle the hole with a chinagraph pencil
Place grey duct tape either side of the hole
Attach a shipping tag to the damaged hose at the coupling
Shipping a standpipe process
Don appropriate PPC and PPE.
Remove the cover from the fire plug (ground ball). Check there are no snakes, spiders or insects when removing the hydrant cover plate. Check for broken glass or syringes in the hydrant pit.
Remove any obstruction from the hydrant pit
Grasp the spindle with one hand and the bottom boss with the other hand.
Place the standpipe across your knee whilst kneeling on one leg.
Check that the spindle is fully up, the wing nut is fully down, and the washer is present.
Place the standpipe in the fire plug / ground ball
Turn clockwise to engage wing nuts under the clutches of the ground ball hydrant.
Lift the standpipe vertically to ensure that the wing nuts are locked under the clutches.
Maintain the standpipe in a vertical position and rotate clockwise using the shipping handles until firmly engaged.
While on one knee, tighten the joint with both hands using the shipping handles. Always rotate headpiece clockwise in order to avoid the possibility of disengaging the wing nut/lugs from the hydrant clutches
Flush the standpipe before connecting the hose to the standpipe.
Turning on a LWG Standpipe
Water on signal.
Rotate spindle clockwise until firm on groundball.
Rotate spindle clockwise SLOWLY until completely open after contact with the ground ball, then back ¼ turn
Turning on a GAAM Standpipe
Water on signal
Rotate spindle clockwise until firm on the groundball
Rotate spindle clockwise slowly three full turns after contact with the ground ball, then back 1/4 turn
Turning off and unship a standpipe
Water off signal
Rotate spindle anticlockwise slowly to avoid water hammer
Disengage the wing nut from the clutches by striking shipping handles off the top boss, anticlockwise
Remove the standpipe and replace the groundball cover
Return the wing nut to the collar
Check the washer is still attached to the standpipe
Fully return the spindle
Check standpipe for any damage, clean and return to the appliance
