hormones Flashcards
prostaglandin synthesis and function
synthesised from arachidonic acid
important role in ovulation , parturition , luteolysis
when is prostaglandin f2 alpha produced and from where and what does it do
if there is no pregnancy - uterine pgf2a is secreted from the endometrium this causes luteolysis of the corpus luteum causing decrease in progesterone allowing increase in oestrodiol from ovulatory follicle
What does prolactin do in the luteal phase of the bitch ?
-supports cl as the principal luteotrophic
-from day 21 progesterone starts to decline so
-this stim prolactin which supports the CL and maintains progesterone ( however this still decline )
what’s progesterone’s func ?
-stim production of histotroph and uterine milk proteins
-supress myometrial contractions
-stimulate mammary gland development
relaxin
-softens connective tissue for growth of foetus
-relaxation of the pelvic ligament
- parturition ( stimulated pgf)
