Hormones Flashcards
Growth hormone (GH)
GHRH stimulates somatotroph cells in anterior pituitary to release GH, which stimulates chondrocytes in bone growth and uptake of amino acids
Thyrotrophin (TSH)
TRH stimulates Thyrotroph cells in anterior pituitary to release TSH, which stimulates thyroid follicles to make thyroid hormones
Adrenocorticotrophin (ACTH)
CRH stimulates corticotroph cells in anterior pituitary to release ACTH which stimulates cortisol release from adrenal cortex
Follicle Stimulating Hormone
FSH
GnRH stimulates Gonandotroph cells in anterior pituitary to release FSH, which Stimulates the ovarian follicular cells to make estrogens and progestins in females
Stimulates sertoli cells in initiate spermatogenesis in males
Luteinizing Hormone
LH
GnRH stimulates Gonandotroph cells in anterior pituitary to release LH, which Causes the Leydig cells to make testosterone
Prolactin (PRL)
Released from anterior pituitary glands, stimulates mammary glands to start lactation
Inhibited by Dopamine
Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH)
Released from anterior pituitary gland, Acts on the collecting duct to increase water permeability
