4 phases of mediatization

A

Phase 1:
a. (mediation) most important source of information becomes the media
b. two or multistep flow (Kats and Lazersfeld)

Phase 2:
a. media content governed by media logic
b. professionalization of journalism
c. public actors invest in public relations

Phase 3:
a. further media independence (others have to adapt to media logic)
b. what and how journalists report changes significantly
c. public actors use spin doctors (kay van de linde)
d. conflict between political and media logic
e. still the idea of politicians that care about society but they realise they need the media

Phase 4:
a. political and social actors internalize and adopt media logic
b. mediated realities replace the notion of a believe in objective realities
c. permanent campaining
d. be popular instead of solve problems
