Hookah Flashcards
What is a hookah?
A Hookah is a waterpipe used to smoke Shisha.
How should you clean a hookah?
Take every part of the hookah apart. Traditional hoses should be cleared of all smoke and hung out to dry. Rinse washable hoses and blow out as much water as you can. Hang it over a closet pole so that it can dry properly. Use a hookah brush and hot water for a thorough cleaning on the stem. Same thing for the vase.
How often should you clean a hookah?
You should clean your hookah quite often. It is important that you clean it right after smoking and not before your next smoke. Otherwise, the smell and remainder of the previous smoke stays inside the hookah and makes it much harder to remove. If you smoke only similar flavors from this one hookah you can wait longer before the flavors will conflict.
What is better: a single, double or triple hose hookah?
The number of hoses your hookah has will not affect the taste or smoke. Although, as hookahs are mainly smoked in groups of at least 3, it’s convenient to have enough hoses to go around.
Does height matter?
The height of the hookah should have no effect on the taste or pull of the hookah. As long as the Hookah is airtight it should smoke to perfection whether it is 12” or 100”.
What is a twist-on stem?
A twist-on stem screws the stem into the base, securing the base air tightly. It’s easy to open and close, great for cleaning and maintenance.
What is shisha?
Shisha usually contains tobacco which is sometimes mixed with fruit or molasses sugar. Although some shisha does not contain nicotine, such as Herbal Shisha. Herbal shisha is made with ingredients like tea leaves, molasses, glycerin, honey, and sugar cane instead of tobacco. Some shisha also contains CBD.
What’s the best way to store shisha?
Keep your shisha tobacco away from direct sunlight and store it in a dry and cool place. Be sure to carefully close the jar, box or bag after using the tobacco. You might want to store your tobacco in a drawer or cabinet at a room temperature.
What is hookah charcoal for?
The Charcoal after being lit is placed atop the holed tinfoil. The heat vapors from the extremely hot coal are used to burn the wet shisha.
How do you put out charcoal?
There are many easy and safe ways to put out charcoal, dropping it into water is always fast and easy.
How do you light hookah charcoal?
The best way to light these coals is on a single coil burner or an electric stove with an exposed heating coil. Quick-light Hookah Coals are easier/quicker to light than natural coal. Simply hold a tablet of coal in the tongs above a source of flame, such as a lighter or struck match. But be careful, as the tongs may become hot. The coal will begin sparking and smoking when it ignites. Watch to make sure that the sparking spreads across the entire surface of the coals and after the sparking ceases, place the coal in the hookah’s tray until there is a layer of ash covering it. Charcoal that still shows large sections of black (un-ashed coal) is not quite ready to smoke, as it is still giving off the combustion fumes that all coal gives off when heating up.
How long can you store charcoals for?
Charcoal lasts for quite a while however if stored under extreme temperatures, whether hot or cold, it will cause them to light less quickly, possibly break upon lighting, and will not burn as long as usual.
Should you clean the ash off the charcoal?
Removing the ash is only necessary when the ash begins to break up and fall into the hookah bowl. If that is happening, use your tong and gently push down atop the middle of the coal with the thin side of the tong and push off one side of the ash, then do the same for the other side.
Why shouldn’t you light charcoal while it’s on the hookah?
Lighting your charcoal atop of your hookah will cause it to taste terrible.
Which part of the hookah coal is most important to be lit first and how can you light the coal faster?
Initially the bottom portion of the coal is most important (for tablets the bottom is the indented portion, for fingers whichever side is lit best should be the bottom); eventually the top will become red and fully lit. The initial puffs are based upon the bottom of the coal. The size of the hookah coal will determine how long the smoke will last; you can always add more coals to the same bowl as they finish until the shisha is fully burned. Keep in mind when placing more coals onto the bowl, not to cover every hole of the tin foil with the coal; some air flow is needed to keep the hookah tasting its best.
