Hoofdstuk 4: research problems Flashcards
1
Q
What are some criteria for research problems ?
A
- Significance: does it contribute ?
- Researchability: is it possible to be researched ?
- Feasibility: e.g.: Time, money, experience, participants, equipment, ethics,…
- Research intrest
2
Q
Wording in research questions?
A
- Clear and concise
- Directional or non-directional
- Research hypothesis= okay NULL hypothesis= not okay (statistics)
3
Q
A rationale (explanation) contains… ?
A
- Problem identification
- Background (context)
- Scope: how big, #people, ..
- Consequence (of not researching)
- Knowledge gaps (lacking info)
- Proposed solution (or how to contribute to it)
4
Q
What are sources for research questions ?
A
- Clinical experience
- Quality improvement
- Literature
- Social issues
- Theories
- Idead from external people
5
Q
Describe the process of topic selecting
A
- Creative process (slow)
- Preliminary ideas
- Sort ideas:
- Interest of researcher
- Knowledge
- Feasability
6
Q
How do you narrow a topic ?
A
- ask broad questions
- Beware of problems too complex
- Multiple problems will emerge
- Each problem would be studied diffrent
- Evaluate
7
Q
Statement of purpose ?
A
=Summarize the research goals
–> PICO (population, intervention, camparison, outcome)
8
Q
Research questions ( how to use variables): dependant and independant.
A
Example: in (p), does (iv) affect the risk of (dv)
9
Q
Explain inductive and deductive hypotheses
A
Deductive: theory is starting point, hypothesis supported => theory strengthened
Inductive: Observation => generalizations
