- Hermes in some ways resembles Prometheus because they are both tricky
- Hermes’ day of birth; born to Maia and Zeus
- Gets out of his cradle and invents fire and sacrifice
- Sees a turtle lying on its back; Hermes rips the turtle out of its shell and hollows out the shell invents the lyre
- Hears some cattle, sacred to Apollo, off in the distance
- Steals the cattle, convincing them to walk backwards
- Apollo discovers the missing cattle and suspects Hermes
- Finds Hermes and Apollo if very mad at him, who is in his cradle
- Zeus has to mediate
- Hermes gives Apollo the lyre as a gift to appease him
- Hermes and Apollo become friends, half-brothers, and jokers
