Homeostasis FINAL Flashcards
Describe the role of adrenaline in the ‘fight or flight’ response.
increase aerobic respiration for more energy
also increase heart rate, blood pressure, blood glucose levels ummmm and metobolic rate, etc.
Also, it randomly dilates pupils for better vision
Explain the nervous system controls thermoregulation
- Muscles control hair standing on edge and trapping air when cold
- Contraction of muscle causes shivering to increase respiration rate when cold
Explain the endocrine system controls thermoregualtion
When cold - Thyroid releases thyroxine to increase metabolic rate and heat
Explain how nervous and endocrine control thermoregulation
Sweat - nervous message stimulates sweat glands and glands release sweat to cool down
When cold vasocontrition- The adrenal gland secretes adrenaline for vasocontriction, preventing heat loss as blood is focused towards organs.
When hot its vasodilation- less adrenaline blood flow to skin and cool down.
What happens if blood pH is too low
stim- Low blood pH = too much C02
Receptor- chemoreceptor in brain detects blood pH
CNS- Nervous message to the respiratory center
effector: intercostal muscle increase reathing rate
response: increase co2 removed from blood at lungs to increase pH
What happens if blood pH is too high
stim- High blood pH = not enough C02
Receptor- chemoreceptor in brain detects blood pH
CNS- Nervous message to the respiratory center
effector: intercostal muscle decreases breathing rate
response: decrease CO2 removed from blood at lungs to decrease pH
