Homeostasis, Cell Structure and Function Flashcards
Does a prokaryotic cell have a nucleus and organelles?
NO
What is a cell?
A cell is the basic structural and functional unit of all living organisms. Robert Hooke first used the term “cell.” You need to have healthy cells to have homeostasis.
How many objectives does our microscopes have?
3
What is homeostasis?
The process of maintaining balance in an organism’s internal environment is called homeostasis.
What is the plasma membrane?
Plasma membranes have selective permeability, meaning they allow some substances to pass through while keeping others out. It is a main part of homeostasis.
What do the ocular lens do on a microscope?
It allows you to see when using the microscope.
What does the Fluid Mosaic Model do?
The fluid mosaic model describes the phospholipids in the bilayer as a “sea” in which other components can float and move around.
Do Eukaryotic Cells have organelles and a nucleus?
Yes
What is a vacuole?
A membrane bound sac used for temporary storage.
What is a lysosome?
Vesicles that contain substances that digest excess or worn-out organelles or food particles.
What is a centriole?
Organelles made of groups of microtubules that function during cell division.
What is cellulose made of?
Carbohydrates
What is a mitochondria?
Convert fuel particles into usable energy.
Which type of transport across the plasma membrane involves the use of carrier proteins?
endocytosis
The
side of the U-shaped tube shown in the illustration had a lower concentration of sugar than the
side before osmosis occurred.
