Biodiversity and Conservation Flashcards
What are the 3 types of biodiversity?
Genetic, species, and ecosystem diversity.
Why is biodiversity important?
It is important because the ecosystem is heavily affected by it.
What are direct and indirect values of biodiversity?
Direct is how it directly affects humans. Indirect is how it indirectly affects humans. ex. plants making oxygen.
What are the threats to biodiversity?
Some threats are Homo Sapiens, pollution, and introduced species.
Current extinction vs background extinction?
Background extinction is over a long period of time. Mass extinction is when a large percent of all species go extinct in a relatively short amount of time.
How can the decline of a single species affect the entire ecosystem?
In an ecosystem all organisms rely on other organisms. If a single species declines the decline will affect the other organisms that rely on that organism for food or to keep they’re population in check will be affected.
What are 2 classes of natural resources?
Renewable and nonrenewable.
What are the methods to conserve biodiversity?
You can legally conserve biodiversity or use renewable resources.
