7.4 Lecture Biology Flashcards
What is the cytoplasm and what does it do?
The environment enclosed by the plasma membrane is a semifluid material called cytoplasm.
What is the cytoskeleton?
The cytoskeleton is a supporting network of long, thin protein fibers that form a framework for the cell and proved an anchor for the organelles.
What does the nucleus contain?
Contains most of the cell’s DNA, which stores information used to make proteins that determine a cell’s growth, function, and reproduction
What is the mitochondria’s job.
Mitochondria convert fuel particles into usable energy.
How does the cell wall help maintain homeostasis?
The cell wall protects the cell and gives it structure which helps maintain homeostasis.
What do microtubules do besides help the structure of the cell?
Microtubules assist in moving substances within the cell.
What is the endoplasmic reticulum or (ER)?
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a membrane system of folded sacs and interconnected channels that serves as the site for protein and lipid synthesis.
