Homeostasis and Feedback Flashcards
1
Q
Homeostasis
A
-maintenance of relatively stable internal conditions despite the continuous changes in environment
-a dynamic state of equilibrium
–conditions vary, but within limits
2
Q
Negative feedback
A
-most common feedback mechanism
-response reduces original stimulus
-ex: regulating body temperature
3
Q
Positive feedback
A
-not as common feedback mechanism (platelets and child brith)
-response enhances original stimulus
–amplifying effect
-usual controls infrequent event that do not require continuous adjustment
-ex: enhancement of labor contractions by oxytocin
