Homeostasis Flashcards
When factors in the external environment change what does this mean for internal environment?
Conditions internally must remain stable
What is maintenance of a stable internal environment called?
Homeostasis
How is homeostasis regulated?
Through control systems called homeostatic mechanisms
What does homeostatic mechanisms consist of?
Receptors
set point
Effectors
What do receptors do?
Detect and monitor specific types of changes
What is the set point?
Normal value or range of values
What are effectors?
Muscle or glands that respond to the changes, return the internal environment to stability
What does the body use to maintain homeostasis
self regulating control system
When does the body functions properly?
Only when heat, pressure and the concentration of H20, Nutrients, o2 are normal
