Homeostasis Flashcards
What is thermoregulation?
Thermoregulation is the process that enables the animal to maintain its body temperature.
What is homeostasis?
homeostasis are self adjusting mechanisms inside the body, which allow the body to keep a constant body temperature.
What is osmoregulation?
Osmoregulation is the process in which both salt and water are regulated inside the body.
what is blood glucose regulation?
This is the process in which insulin and glycogen controls the bloods glucose levels.
Why is thermoregulation important?
Our body has to keep a constant temperature f 37*C because enzyme’s only work at properly at this temperature.
Why is it important for enzyme’s not to over heat?
Enzymes change shapes in different temperatures. If enzymes get too hot they will denature (perminately change their shape).
how does osmoregulation work?
When there is too much water in the body the Pituitary gland produces less ADH in the kidney therefore more urine is produced.
I there is not enough water in the body the Pituitary gland will produce more ADH in the kidney therefore less urine is produced.
What does ADH stand for? And where is it produced? to carr out what process?
Anti-diuretic hormone.
The Pituitary gland
osmoregulation.
What is the Hypothalamus?
hypothalamus is a part of the brain that has several functions.
