Homeostasis Flashcards
What is homeostasis?
A bodily condition that maintains equilibrium within the body
What are the components of feedback mechanisms
(what happens when homeostasis is disrupted)
Homeostasis :)
- stimulus disrupts homeostasis :(
- a receptor is triggered (or more)
- efferent pathway to control centre
- control centre interprets and outputs response
- afferent path way passes info away form control centre
- effector triggered
- homeostasis :)
What’s the difference between the afferent and efferent pathway?
The afferent pathway passes info to the control centre and the efferent pathway takes info out/away from the control centre (other way around)
What are the different receptors in the body?
- Thermo
- mechano
- chemo
- baror (pressure)
- osmo (osmotic pressure)
Define superior
Closer to the head
Define inferior
Away / distant from the head
Define proximal
Closer to the point of reference
Define distal
Further away from the point of reference
Define medial
Towards the centre of the body
Define lateral
Away from the midline of the body
Define anterior
The front of the body
Define posterior
The back of the body
