Q

Describe the role fo skin in temperature regulation

A

.Skin controls heat loss as the skin has sweat glands which allow heat to pass through the skin even though ut is impermeable. Heat from the body is used to evaporate the sweat therefore cooling us down.

. Skin controls heat loss by vasodilation and vasoconstriction. This is when blood either flows closer or further from the skin allowing heat to be maintained or lost.

Q

Explain vasoconstriction

A

In cold conditions arterioles constrict to reduce blood flow closer to the skin meaning less heat is lost.

Q

Explain vasodilation

A

In warm conditions arterioles relax to allow more blood flow closer to the skin allowing ore wheat to be lost

Q

Describe the role of ADH in regulating the water content of the blood

A

.When the hypothalamus detects a low water content in the blood, more ADH is secreted by th pituitary gland. This makes the collecting duct in the kidney more permeable to water allowing ore water to be re absorbed back into the blood.

. When the hypothalamus detects too much water in the blood the pituitary gland releases less ADH meaning the collecting duct in the kidney is less permeable to water so less water gets reabsorbed back into the blood.
