What is the Mental picture of Aconite?
- Restless, fearful, anxious, phobic
- Fear of death
- Disproportionate fear e.g., of crossing a road, fear of crowds
- Over-sensitive to pain, fears pain
- Fear of pain may be worse than the pain itself
- Symptoms may have been triggered by fright / shock
What is the General picture of Aconite?
- Complaints come on suddenly
- Intense symptoms with rapid onset
- Symptoms come on after exposure to cold / dry wind
- Early stages of colds, fevers and inflammation
- Skin may be hot and dry; thirsty for cold drinks
- > fresh air
- < touch, evening / around midnight
What are Indications of Aconite (given the patient fits the symptom picture) ?
- Shock after a traumatic experience e.g., accident, bad news; panic attacks
- Urinary retention, stool retention
- Acute fever (sudden, unexpected), no sweat
- First remedy given at the start of any cold or flu. Starts with a sore throat
- < exposure to cold air, bathing in cold water.
- Dry croupy cough
- For babies right after birth to avoid jaundice and get organs out of shock and working properly
- Crush 3 200C pills and mix with 5 ml water and drop slowly into baby’s mouth
- Alternatively, apply to the baby’s navel; three aconite 200C tablets crushed into calendula cream / ointment

What is the Mental picture of Arnica?
- Arnica corresponds to people who tend to push themselves too hard e.g., athletes who end up with over-training injuries
- No fear of outcome e.g., extreme sports enthusiasts
- Obstinate, stubborn, keep going even when injured
- May say they are ok, even when it is obvious they are not
- Fear of being touched (due to pain), want to be left alone
What is the General picture of Arnica?
- Injuries and bruising to soft tissues
- Bruising from falls, blows,
- Surgery, childbirth (for baby too)
- Shock —physical, emotional (compare aconite), memory may be poor
- Upper body is hot, lower body is cold
- > lying down, head low
- < jarring, lying on the injured part
What are Indications of Arnica (given the patient fits the symptom picture) ?
Any trauma (physical / emotional)
* Bruising —blue-purple
* Head injury* (acute stage)
* Broken bones
* Cuts and grazes taken orally i.e., not applied externally
* Surgery (any): Given after the procedure
* Note: Avoid during menstruation —may cause more bleeding
*For NWS head injury (Nat Sulph)
Examples of Arnica administration, acute prescribing
External use:
Dilute 200C in water (10 drops / 3–5 pills), soak cloth in it and apply externally and place it on area of trauma.
* Foot soak for blisters as a result of walking too long in tight / new shoes
* In water for cleaning bed/pressure sores for bedridden patients (post-surgery, elderly, terminally ill)
! Note: Do not apply arnica to an open wound (consider calendula instead).

Insect bites / bladder infections.
What is the Mental picture of Apis?
- Restlessness (busy bee / worker bee)
- Irritable
- Feel forced to stay at home (the hive) and fulfil family demands
- Jealous of those able to get out there and follow their ambitions
What is the General picture of Apis?
Symptoms characterised by:
* Swellings with oedema
* Redness, burning / darting pain, stinging
* Restlessness
* Lack of thirst
* May be awkward or clumsy
* > cool air, cold applications, cold drinks
* < heat, touch, lying down, 4–6 pm
What are Indications of Apis (given the patient fits the symptom picture) ?
- Bee stings or insect stings with redness, swelling (oedema), heat, pain.
- Urticaria—intolerable itching and burning, great sensitivity, colour changes from pink to purple.
- Cystitis / urethritis —scalding and urgent urination, constant need to urinate, burning pain, last drops sting and smart.
- Arthritis—acute inflammation with much stinging and burning (apitherapy).
- Shingles with intolerable itching at night.

Fever

What is the Mental picture of Belladonna?
- Hyper-sensitive
- Over-sensitive to light, noise, being bumped
- Angry, may be delirious, have hallucinations
- Panicky
What is the General picture of Belladonna?
- Intense symptoms with rapid onset
- Fever going over 40C
- Inflammation with redness, heat, throbbing pain, congestion
- Thirsty, may crave lemonade
- > lying down
- < touch, jarring movement, at 3 pm
What are Indications of Belladonna (given the patient fits the symptom picture) ?
- Sudden onset of fever (can develop hallucinations) dilated, shining pupils, burning skin that is hot to the touch, both cheeks red and hot
- Migraine—extreme sensitivity of all senses, throbbing, right-sided frontal pain. Sparks / colours before eyes. > coffee.
- Meningitis—similar symptoms to migraine above accompanied by high fever and hallucinations (use while seeking medical help).
- Heatstroke / sunburn —scalding, hot to touch, cannot bear clothes to touch parts. Switch to apis when the blistering starts.

What is the Mental picture of Calc Phos?
- Energy can be low and accompanied by mental weakness or collapse
- Loss of motivation, mental apathy
- Sensitive, dissatisfied, sigh a lot
- Children whine, are irritable and easily bored, can be badly behaved
What is the General picture of Calc Phos?
- Physical ailments often concern bones, joints, teeth or digestion
- Growing pains/teething
- Low energy with physical weakness
- Illness can follow bad news
- Digestion and assimilation may be poor
- ‘Failure to thrive’
- In school children, stress related to school may result in phobias, abdominal pain or headaches
What are Indications of Calc Phos (given the patient fits the symptom picture) ?
- Broken bones*; where bones are slow to knit together. Calc. phos. 6C, 5 drops / 3 pills under the tongue 3 x daily for 2 weeks (works well taken alongside Symphytum 6C / 12C)
- Any bone surgery e.g., hip replacement, spinal fusions
- Osteoporosis / osteopenia
- Useful during growth spurts or for growing pains
- Teething problems / slow dentition, easy decay
- Lactose intolerance / intolerance to milk
*Only once the bones have been correctly set
