In what direction is a standard holding pattern to be flown?
A right hand holding pattern is standard unless the chart depicts, or ATC directs, otherwise.

What are the speed limitations in a holding pattern?
Up to and incl FL140: - 230kts or - 170kts (approach for CAT A and B only) Above FL140 and up to and incl FL200: - 240kts Above FL 200: - 265kts (Jepp Term - AU 5)
When does the outbound timing on a holding pattern commence?
Timing begins abeam the fix or on attaining the outbound heading, whichever comes later.

What are the outbound time / distance limitations in a holding pattern?
Up to and incl FL140:
- 1 min or time or distance limit specified on the chart
Above FL140:
- 1.5min or time or distance limit specified on the chart. (Jepp Term - AU 5)
What are the turn limitations in a holding pattern?
All turns in nil wind should be at a bank angle of 25 degrees or Rate One, whichever requires the lesser bank. (Jepp Term - AU 5)
What can be done to adjust for winds in a holding pattern?
Heading and timing may be adjusted to compensate for the effects of wind to ensure the inbound track is regained before passing the holding fix inbound.

When determining the type of entry into a holding pattern is heading or track used?

How many degrees flexibility does a pilot have when choosing the type of holding pattern entry?
5 degrees either side of the sector boundaries.

May a pilot shorten or lengthen a holding pattern?
Yes, a holding pattern may be shortened to exit the pattern at a specified time or it may be lengthened subject to ATC approval and terrain clearance. (Jepp Term - AU 6)
May an aircraft descend in a holding pattern?
Yes, an aircraft may descend in a holding pattern subject to ATC approval and provided it doesn’t descend below the minimum altitude specified for the hold. (Jepp Term - AU 6)
