What is a Hold Tag?
A) A A T O C T W A T O O A P S, D, C, T, M, G, O O E.
B) T D O A R O O A B O R.
A) An approved tag or card that warns against the operation of a particular switch, device, circuit, tool, machine, gate, or other equipment.
B) The disabling of a reclosing operation of a breaker or recloser.
A Hold Tag will not…
P I O D F E C O E E.
Prevent injury or death from electrical contact of energized equipment.
A Hold Tag offers no…
P P O T P R O E.
Personal protection other than preventing reclosing of equipment.
A Hold Tag limits…
F E T T D S, B P T N R C O T S B O L R I.
Fault exposure to the distribution system, by preventing the normal reclose cycle of the substation breaker or line recloser involved.
Who can request a Hold Tag?
1) A “Q P” A D I T SRP APR.
2) C W F SRP W A O T P S L & H A C C I.
1) Any “qualified person” as defined in the SRP APR.
2) Contractors working for SRP who are on the Project Services List and have all current contact information.
What is needed to request a Hold Tag? (6 things)
A) Unit number and name of the qualified person requesting the Hold Tag.
B) Coordinates of work location.
C) Map code of work location.
D) Device(s) being worked on or around (SRP number, pad number, type of overhead construction etc.)
E) Job number
F) Nature of work.
What is a Diminished Hold Tag?
It means the ground relay has been taken out of service on that circuit with the installed Hold Tag.
Why do we also place a Hold Tag on the upstream breaker when a Hold Tag is requested downstream of a line recloser?
We don’t trust that the recloser will isolate the downstream fault without also tripping the upstream breaker.
Pole mounted TripSaverII cutout mounted reclosers are rated at … and trip at …

Pole mounted TripSaverII cutout mounted reclosers protect…
Against faults on underground cable.
Should a pole mounted TripSaverII be used for Hold Tag purposes? Why or why not?
No, because they do not possess utility grade relays.
If there is a pole mounted TripSaverII upstream of the work location, where should the Hold Tag be placed?
On the breaker feeding the TripSaver.
What is a DER?
Distributed Energy Resource.
In terms of Distributed Energy Resources, what must be disconnected for Hold Tags?
Only spinning mass closed transitions or Co-gens.
