malignant proliferation of lymphocytes characterised by the presence of reed sternberg cells
features
- painless, non tender, asymmetrical lymphadenopathy
- weight loss, pruritus, night sweats, fever
- alcohol pain
biochem findings
- normocytic anaemia
- oesinophilia
- raised LDH

how is ann arbor staging worked out

outline Ann Arbor staging
stage 1 - cancer in a single region
stage 2 - indicates cancer is located in 2 separate regions; both affected areas are confined to one side of the diaphragm
stage 3 - indicates the cancer has spread to both sides of the diaphragm, including one organ or area near the lymph nodes of spleen
stage 4 - diffuse or disseminated involvement of one or more extra-lymphatic organs, including: bone marrow, liver, nodular involvement of lung
