what is brachytherapy
uses a radioactive source inserted via an applicator into the vagina/cervix; delivering a higher dose to the tumour with less toxicity to surrounding organs

- bone marrow suppression
- renal impairment
risk factors for cervical cancer
- multiple sexual partners
- HPV infection
- early onset of sexual activity
- immunosuppression
- 45 to 59 years
symptoms of cervical cancer (although typically late signs )
- abnormal vaginal bleeding
- postcoital bleeding
- mucoid/purulent vaginal discharge
management of cervical cancer in pregnancy
MDT
delivery at 35 weeks
CIN I
low grade lesion with mildly atypical cellular chamnge in lower 1/3 epithelium
CIN II
high grade lesion with moderately atypical cellular changes confined to basal 2/3 epithelium
CIN III
severely atypical cellular changes encompassing greater than 2/3 of epithelial thickness and includes full thickness lesions
(severe dysplasia or CIS)
