Hodgkin Lymphoma Flashcards
What is Hodgkin Lymphoma?
Neoplastic proliferation of Reed-Sternberg cells which are large B cells with multilobed nuclei and prominent nucleoli (owl-eyed nuclei) CD15 and 30+;
What are Reed-Sternberg cells’ actions?
Occasionally result in B symptoms (fever, chills, weight loss, night sweats), attract reactive lymphocytes, plasma cells, macros, eosinophils, can lead to fibrosis
What makes up HL tumor? What subtypes are there?
Primarily reactive inflammatory cells; Nodular sclerosis, lymphocyte-rich (best prog), mixed cellularity, lymphocyte depleted (worst prog)
What is the most common type of HL? Classic presentation? Histo findings?
Nodular sclerosis; Enlarging cervical or mediastinal lymph node in a young adult, usually female; Lymph node divided by bands of sclerosis with RS cells in lake-like spaces (Lacunar cells)
What cell type in mixed cellularity HL associated with?
Eosinophils because RS produce IL-5
What population is lymphocyte-depleted HL found?
Elderly and HIV-positive
