What is aids?
Weakening of immune system by HIV- can’t fight infection and may fall ill of diarrhea, pneumonia, tumours
HIV attatches to CD4 molecule in T cells to infect
Healthy= 1500-800 CD4/mm3 of blood, AIDS= 200CD4
takes 8-10 years to destroy immune system
How is it passed on?
unprotected sex, infected needles, HIV positive mother, infected blood transfusions
How many infected?
36.7 million has HIV, new HIV infections among children declined by 47% since 2010
1 million died from AIDs related illnesses in 2016
lots of men infected, so more young women are infected and die, due to relations

25 million infected, 7.5% infected adults
Reduced economic growth up to 2% in some countries
poor, poor hygiene, uneducated, unprotected sex and religious views against contraception. discrimination, sell sex, having lots of children is a sign of male virality

Absenteeism/death of workers, budget insufficient, high demand for effective treatment, developing countries need help from international donors

reduction in food production, from cash crops to food crops (lack funds for non food essentials), less skilled labour
