  • Sharing dirty needles can spread the disease.
  • Drinking infected breast milk can give the baby HIV.
  • Unprotected sex with an infected person will increase the risk of HIV spreading.

  • Exposure to infected body fluids or tissues can spread HIV.
  • during childbirth the baby is exposed to blood and other fluids, putting it at risk of HIV.

Effects of HIV/AIDS.

A
  • Lack of school staff means children cannot be educated, therefore the children cannot go on to get good jobs and will find it difficult to support their families.
  • The life expectancy of countries like Botswana is lower due to HIV/AIDS.
  • The relatives of people suffering from HIV/AIDS, may not be accepted by the community and may lose their jobs and struggle to survive.
  • If farmers are ill they will be too weak to work meaning there might be food shortages and people will not have enough food to survive.

Management of HIV/AIDS

A
  • Wearing condoms during Sex is an effective way to prevent HIV/AIDS.
  • Using a clean needle or not sharing needles at all stops spreading the disease.
  • Always test blood before giving a blood transfusion.
  • Test for HIV if you think you are at risk.
    -Take PrEP if you think you have been exposed to HIV.
  • Screening for HIV during pregnancy to check for the disease.
  • Use formula milk for the baby to prevent the baby getting HIV.
