o IVDU
o People who have unprotected sex (anal or vaginal)
o A child in utero with a mother who has a high viral load

- Sexual contact (biggest factor)
- Needle sharing
- Transfusions

• What is AIDS?
A
about 6-9 years after HIV exposure. This occurs when there is significant immunocompromised.

• What are the 3 phases of HIV/AIDS progression?
- Initial infection
- Clinical latency - HIV particles slowly kill off?
- AIDS

- Initial infection = influenza-like illness following initial infection
- Clinical latency = Asymptomatic period where the HIV particles slowly kill off CD4+ T cells
- AIDS = the phase of immunodeficiency
