what was the Schutzstaffel?

what was the Gestapo?
the secret police that set up ‘informers’ and could arrest and imprison people without trial

- hitler used films, radio, rallies, etc.
- josef goebbel was in charge of propaganda
- displayed carrots/rewards and brainwashing ‘facts’ about other races
- hid nazi failures and highlighted achievements
how did hitler influence younger people?
- hitler youth prepared boys for military service
- bdm (bund deutscher madel) prepared girls for motherhood.
this was compulsory unless you were jewish.
what did hitler promise in the elections?
- create 1000s of jobs
- guaranteed good wages
- recover lost land
- ‘make germany great again’
what was the great depression?
in 1929, it struck the USA and germany relied on US’ loans - unemployment soared, companies collapsed, etc.
hitler used this to promote himself by promising jobs.
