Reasons Europeans wanted to explore new territories
Europeans wanted to explore new territories becuase they wanted to find new resources, Christians wanted to spread their faith, and they wanted to find new colonies and expand, and more power.
First People on the land we now call Canada
The first people on the land we now call Canada were the First Nations. They were very knowledgaeble about the enviroment and taught the Europeans many of survival skills
Scurvy (What? How to cure it?)
Scurvy occurs from lack of Vitamin C, which is found in citrus fruit. Scurvy can cause weakness, soreness, and gum disease. You can cure Scurvy by drinking scurvy tea. Scurvy tea is made by boiling ceader leaves. Ceader has lots of Vitamin C.
Jesuits (Who?Their Role?)
Seigneurial System
The French used a land division system called the seigneurial system. The land was divided into long narrow strips. Habitants (farmers) were given land by seigners (French Nobles) The French Nobles were granted land on the St. Lawrence river.
Cooperations between the Europeans and The First Nations.
The first nations taught the Europeans survival strategies, hunting medicine, food, and transportation methods. The First Nations were able to use new technolagies, and medal tools.
Patriots (Who?Their Motives?)
Patriots were people who were against british control and influence. They believed that the British were taking away their freedom, and often blamed the British soldiers for causing violence.
Loyalists (Who?Their Motives?)
Loyalists were people who were against war and we loyal to the British. Many loyalists had buisness ties with the British, and some hadlost their land to the Americans, so they didn’t support them.
Father of France
Samuel Champlain was a french explorer who set out to achieve wealth and power for his country. He was a mapmaker, and he was responsible for creating the first European settlement in Canada.
Abolitionists
Abolitionists were people against slavery. They began a secret network that allowed slaves to esape from the United States to Canada.
The coureurs de bois
The Coureurs de bois were young french man that traveled in eastern Canada to get fur tradesThey were unlicenced, and didn’t have permission to transfer goods to places like trading posts.
Wolfe and Montcalm
James wolf was a british general, and set sail to conquor Quebec with his army. His plan failed as commander Montcalm was well prepared and expected it. James then tried a different plan, but both groups got disorganized, and both Wolfe and Montcalm died in the battle.
