Q

Who was responsible for the Civil War? Why?

A

I think Charles was to to blame for the Civil War, because he was very selfish and became lost with what he was doing. This is because he turned down Parliaments request for power and caused them to get really angry with his actions. For example, in 1639, the Scots attacked England as they didn’t like the religious changes William Laud made and Charles had to ask Parliament for money and help. In result to this, in December 1641, Parliament took control of the army which had been under the kings control for years.

A

Reasons for: The went to war against Parliament and his own people, If the King was kept alive there could be another war, The king started the war which means he is a man of blood.
Reasons against: The country would be lost without a king, If the king dies so does the structure of society which means the monarchy dies with him, The king is in charge of the court so he can’t be put on trial.
