History of the atomic structure Flashcards
The Mnemonic to remember the scientists?
Don’t Try Remembering Brilliant Chemists
Who was the first to contribute and what did he contribute?
John Dalton
Atoms are small spheres and different elements are made up of different atoms
Who discovered the ‘plum pudding’ model, how, and explain it?
JJ Thompson - discovered the ‘electron’
The theory that an atom is a ball of positive protons with negative electrons dotted around
Who made improvement to the ‘plum pudding model’ , how and explain?
Ernest Rutherford - Nuclear model.
Thin gold sheet experiment
He fired alpha particles into Thin gold sheet, if the plum pudding model was correct then the particles should go straight through however, most of them were scattered and some were even deflected. This led to the ‘nuclear model’
Explain the ‘nuclear model’
Nuclear model states that the mass of an atom is concentrated at the nucleus which contains protons and neutrons
