The years after Muhammad’s death there was a disagreement over leadership. Some Muslims believe that the leader should be a direct descendant from muhammmad however majority of the Muslims were happy for the leader to not be a family member, they were satisfied with someone who knew the Qur’an and could be a good leader to the people. The first leader to succeed Muhammad was Abu Bakr. Who was a close friend of Muhammad’s. Some Muslims weren’t happy about this as they thought the next leader should be a family member of Muhammad. Some Muslims thought the next leader should be Muhammad’s son in law Ali. Ali was eventually appointed leader in 656 ce. He was the fourth leader after Abu Bakr
