Where did nucleic acids get their name?

A
  • Weak acidic material isolated from the nucleus
  • First isolated from nuclei of white blood cells in 1869 by friedrich miescher (but not studied thoroughly until about 100 years later
  • The two nucleic acids are DNA and RNA —> deoxyribonucleic acid and ribonucleic acid
