  • Developed along river valleys in the eastern section:
    • Huang River (Huang He)
    • Yangtze River (Chang Jiang)
    • Xi River
    • Zhu Jiang Delta
  • Provided water supplies and transport routes and caused significant floods
    • Floods created rich farmland along the course of the river
