Ruler elected to govern land in central Europe eg Austria.

A name given to Elizabeth I because she was so gloriously successful.
Renaissance
The revival of art and literature in the 14th to 16th centuries in Europe.
Excommunicated
To be expelled from the Catholic Church by the Pope.
Usurper
Someone who steals the throne.
Piracy
The practice of attacking and robbing ships at sea.
Ambassador
Person who represents another country.
Exchequer
The government department that looks after the Queen’s finances.
Succession
The act of process of becoming a king or queen.
Custom duties
Taxes paid to the government on goods coming into a country.

A wandering beggar who often turned to crime.
