In 1965, the Race Relations Act became the first law to directly address racism. It became illegal to disrimanate on the grounds of colour, race or ethnicity

It was made in response to concerns about the levels of immigration growing, but did so in a very racist way
What political groups grew in number as a consiquence of Enoch Powell’s speech
The National Front grew in numbers and by the end of the 1960s there was 10,000 members and by the mid 1970s there were 20,000 members and even had election candidates stand for Parliament
