The celts
Came from Europe and settled in around 500 BC, Farmers, wore colourful clothes, built forts and introduced bagpipes to Britain
The romans
Arrived in 43 AD from Italy and stayed for 400 years, A lot of the main roads were based of old roman roads, much of our language and laws can be traced back to the romans, they first used calendars, coins, glass and bricks
The anglo-saxons
Arrived in 450 AD after the romans left, invaded in small groups, gave England its name ‘Angle-land’, they were pagans and worshiped many Gods
The vikings
Arrived in 800 AD from Denmark, Norway and Sweden, some attacked and some went home and others didnt go anywhere, a man of viking origin became king in 1016(King cnut)
The normans
Arrived in 1066 from France, over 10,000 words came from the Normans, they invented surnames, introduced deer, pheasants and rabbits and then hunted them, changed how the country was ruled and how people were taxed
