Types of convicts

A

govt assigned: work for govt eg: roads, in chain gang so they couldn’t escape

Assigned: if good, assigned to free settler to help them build, disadvantage for free settler- had to feed & clothe them

Ticket of leave: for good behaviour, work for them self & go back to UK

Expiree: completely free, can work & save money

Emancipist: someone’s who was so good, pardoned completely

Convicts flogged & put in horrible prisons

Eureka stockade

A

Big wooden fence where ppl went in to protest against mining licence, unfair laws, corruption & the right to vote
-Troopers attacked on 3rd Dec
500 miners met together under flag, Peter Layla as spokesperson (member of vic parliament)
Built stockage at Eureka
1854 FIRST TIME AUS FIGHTING FOR RIGHTS
Their demands were met even after the day was a disaster
