Definition of Sunnah
A
- In legal rulings- Jurists; legal ruling on people’s actions from perspective of shariah. When something is recommended.
- In Usul al-Fiqh , it is a methodology to derive laws. This is the definition used in Authority of the sunnah
- In Aqeedah; sunnah refers to foundations of faith
- In Hadith; sunnah refers to everything the Prophet SWS did
- Linguistically means story, dialogue
- Technical meaning; What the prophet SWS did

What is the meaning of the Authority of the Prophet SWS?
A
Authority of the sunnah is legitimate evidence in Islamic law that leads one to the ruling of Allah SWT.
Also means that one must beleive in what the sunnah comprises of and must act upon it

- ‘Ali r.a asked narrators to take an oath to confirm their reception of hadith
- Ibn Mas’oud was sent to Kufa to disseminate hadith
