Histopathology Flashcards
What IAC tumor is this and describe the histopath features?
Densely packed scwhanomma cells (Antoni A areas) within loosely packed cells (Antoni B cells). Verocay bodies (pink) surrounded by nuclear palisading.
Vestibular schwanommas = 90% of all CPA tumors.
What salivary gland tumor is this?
Warthin’s tumor (papillary proliferation lined with bi-layer epithelium).
-Motor oil fluid within cyst is pathognomic for Warthin’s!
What are physalisiferous cells associated with?
Chordoma (abundant vacuolated cytoplasms)
What salivary gland tumor is this?
Adenoid cystic - swiss cheese!
Three types: Tubular, Cribiform with < 30% solid, Cribiform > 30% solid (worse prognosis)
What thyroid cancer is associated with “plasmacytoid morphology” and what is recommended TX?
Medullary thyroid carcinoma, needs total thyroidectomy central ND (+ lateral ND if obvious nodes on imaging)
What tumor is this associated with and what is the main feeding artery?
Zelballen, associated with glomus tumors, ascending pharyngeal artery, SDH mutation
-Salt and pepper appearance on MRI
-Test to make sure its not secreting catecholamines (remove if so)
What salivary tumor is this?
-Low grade mucoepidermoid (lots of mucous), high grade = more squamous components
-Most common salivary gland malignancy
What IAC tumor does this describe:
Spindle cells arranged in nest and psamomma bodies
Meningioma!
What nasopharyngeal mass might you suspect this is?
JNA
The pathology shows Intricate mixture of stellate and staghorn blood vessels with variable vessel wall thickness.
