Histology test review Flashcards
1
Q
Cutaneous Membrane (skin)
A
Keratinized stratified squamous epithelium attached to a layer of connective tissue
- Exposed to air, dry membrane
2
Q
Mucous Membrane (Open)
A
Line all body cavities that open to the outside of the body.
Wet or moist membrane covered in secretions
Stratified squamous or simple columnar epithelia lying directly over a layer of loose connective tissue called lamina propria
3
Q
Serous Membrane (closed)
A
Found in closed ventral body cavities
Simple squamous epithelium (mesothelium) resting on a thin layer of loose connective (areolar) tissue
Mesothelial cells create a thin, clear serous fluid that lubricates the facing surfaces so they slide across one another.
