Histology Of Respiratory Tract Flashcards
For the extrapulmonary tubes of the respiratory tract, what is the structure order - from lumen to outside of the tube?
Mucosa, submucosa, cartillage, adventitia.
The mucosa of the extrapulmonary tubes of the respiratory tract consists of 2 layers. What are these 2 layers?
The epithelium and a thin loose connective tissue called the lamina propria.
What connective tissue fibre pre dominates the respiratory tract?
Elastin
Name 2 cell types found in the epithelial layer
Basal cells, goblet cells
What is the type of epithelium in the respiratory tract?
Pseudostratified cilliated columnar epithelium
What does the submucosa layer contain and what is their function?
Glands that secrete mucous
What can be viewed to distinguish a histology slide of the trachea to a bronchus?
The cartillage are shaped in C rings in the trachea whereas they form cartillage plates in the bronchus
The absence of what 3 main features distinguishes a bronchus from a bronchiole?
No goblet cells, cartilage and glands
What type of epithelium is found in bronchioles?
Columnar or cuboidal
What type of connective tissue fibres pre dominate the respiratory portion of the lung tissue?
Reticular and elastin fibers
