Histology – Connective tissue Flashcards
What are the 4 classes of connective tissue?
- Connective tissue proper
- Cartilage
- Bone
- Blood
What is mesenchyme ?
It is the embryonic tissue from which all connective tissue are derived from.
Name the characteristics of connective tissue
- They all derive from the same embryonic tissue
- Few cells
- Extracellular matrix
- Rich in blood vessels or no vessels
Name the functions of connective tissue
- Connect and support other tissues
- Protection
- Insulation and energy storage
- Transportation
Cell type of connective tissue proper
Fibroblasts/cytes
Cell type of cartilage
Chondroblasts/cytes
Cell type of bones
osteoblasts/cytes
Cell type of blood
Hematopoietic stem cells
What is ground substance?
- Secreted by fibroblasts
- Polysaccharides and proteins
- Unstructured; extracellular space filler
- The texture varies: fluid to solid
What are the 3 connective tissue fibers?
- Collagen fibers
- Elastic fibers
- Reticular fibers
Where do fibers come from?
fibroblast
What is loose areolar connective tissue
A layer of connective tissue underneath the skin, it contains cell types and fibers. It connects and support, it also allows nutrient exchange
What is adipose tissue?
- Mostly fat storage cells (adipocytes)
* Supports, insulates and provides energy
What are dense regular connective tissue?
Tendons (connects muscles to bones)
Ligaments (connects bones to bones)
Where are dense elastic connective tissue found?
Found in walls of arteries
