Anatomy, Physiology and Body Organization Flashcards
The study of anatomy is ?
The study of body’s structures
How is anatomy studied ?
- By dissection
2. By microscopic observations
Tu study of Physiology is ?
The study of the functions of the body’s structures.
What is homeostasis ?
A state of dynamic equilibrium, helps the body keep steady internal conditions.
How is Physiology studied ?
- By laboratory investigations and clinical trials.
2. By the detection of molecules
How is Anatomy and Physiology related ?
Anatomy supports function.
What is the smallest function unit of a living organism ?
The cell
Describe unicellular organisms
In unicellular organisms, cells perform all functions on their own, such as, ingestion, digestion, metabolism and waste disposal. Bacteria is an example of a unicellular organism.
Describe multicellular organisms
In multicellular organisms, cells work together and are specialized in one function. They all rely on each other. A human is an example of a multicellular organism.
What are tissues ?
Tissues are a group of cells that have a similar structure and are arranged in a specific way to achieve a function
What are organs ?
Organs are distinct structures made of different types of tissues. The types of tissues in an organ determine its function(s).
What is an organ system ?
An organ system is a group of organs that perform complex functions and maintain a balanced body physiology such as the urinary system.
