Histology Flashcards
Arterioles
- No tunica adventia
- No internal elastic lamin
- only a few smooth muscle layers. in the tunica media
- rich sympathetic flow to control flow of blood
Capillaries
Only Tunica intima
-PERICYCTES: found in the BM of the tunica intima-
What are pericytes
- Found in the capillaries
- Are an incomplete layer of cells which complete the BM
- Have contractile properties so can control the flow of blood into the tissues
Layers of the blood vessels
Tunica intima : simple squamous + BM +connective
Tunica media
Tunica adventia : simple squamous + BM + connective
Differences between the tunica media of elastic and muscular arteries
Elastic arteries: have laminae of elastic fibres- squiggly
Muscular arteries : have lots of smooth muscle
Have an internal elastic lamina under the tunica intima and an external elastic lamina between the tunica media and adventia
Layers of the veins
Tunica intima- very thin
Tunica media- thin or absent
Tunica adventia- collagen tissue
Differences between superficial and deep veins
Superficial- thick wall with no surrounding support
Deep- thin with surrounding support from fascia and muscle
what makes up the valves
the tunica intima
