Histology Flashcards
What are the 4 basic tissue types
Connective, muscle, epithelium, nervous tissue
What are the two types of glandular epithelium?
Endocrine (through basal lamine) and exocrine (through apical membrane)
What are the two types of connective tissue, give examples of their type
Hard connective tissue like bone and cartilage
Soft connective tissue like tendons, ligaments and stroma of organs
What are the three types of muscle
Cardiac
Smooth
Skeletal
Give some features of smooth muscle
Fibres long parallel and have an oval nucleus
Involuntary muscle
Give some features of skeletal muscle
Each fibre multinucleated
Membrane of these cells is the sarcolemma
Under conscious control
Give some features of cardiac muscle
Striated muscle with single nucleus
Contains intercalated discs
What are the connective tissue layers called that surround the CNS and PNS
CNS; meninges
PNS epinerurium
What are the three types of neurones
Multipolar; many dendrites, one axon
Bipolar; one dendrite and axon
Pseudounipolar; axon in both directions
What are the three major salivary glands
Parotid submandibular and sublingual
Name the salivary glands in order from most viscous secretions to least
Sublingual, submandibular and parotid
