Histology Flashcards
Skeletal muscles are ..
striated, unbranched, multinucleate
Epimysium
connective tissue surrounds muscle
Perimysium
surrounds single fascicle
Endomysium
connective tissue around single fibre
Muscle contains…
fascicles > myofibril > sarcomeres (also contains blood vessels, connective tissue, nerves and lymphatics)
type I =
dark meat (think ducks migrate)
type II =
white meat (chickens don’t fly far)
Cartilage
semirigid and deformable, permeable, avascular, contain chondrocytes
Hyaline cartilage
most common form. Found at articular surfaces, tracheal rings, costal cartilage, growth plates, precursor in fetus to many bones.
Bone
rigid, not permeable, cells need to be nourished by blood vessels. Provides support, levers for movement, protection of internal organs, calcium store (95%), haemopoesis (blood cell production within bone marrow)
Bone comprised of
65% bioapetite, 23% collagen, 10% water, 2% non-collagen proteins
