Histology 2 Flashcards
Describe Perinsinusoidal (Ito) cells?
Rare cellfound in the liver. Functions to secrete matrix of hepatic laminae, store vitamin A in lipid vesicles, and provide growth factors and directions for regeneration of damaged liver.
Lie between bases of hepatocytes and look like small cells filled with numerous lipid vesicles
Describe kupffer cells
Rare cells in the liver. Lie within the sinusoid lumen attached to endothelial cells.
Function to remove circulating debris, secrete cytokines, and breakdown RBCs.
Irregular shape with long processes extending into the sinusoid lumen.
Stain with india ink staining.
What consists of a portal triad in the liver?
Hepatic artery
Portal vein
Bile ductule
What is the functional unit of the liver called?
Liver acinus (three zones) numbering starts at interspace between hepatocytes.
What is the condition called when zone three of the hepatic lobule suffers from hypoxia?
Centrilobular necrosis
Can be hypoxia secondary to cardiac conditions (known as cardiac cirrhosis)
What is the main exocrine function of the liver?
Bile production
